Abstract

The aim of this work was to study the effect of different solvents in the yield and the selectivity of the reaction for obtaining α-terpineol from grapefruit oil, rich in limonene. It was tested as solvent isopropyl alcohol, acetic acid,
acetone and carbon tetrachloride. A univariate statistical design was used and an ANOVA analysis to demonstrate that the solvent had a significant effect in the yield and the selectivity of the reaction. We found that with acetone, the yield
and the selectivity were higher too.
