Abstract

In this work, the potential production of biogas is quantified for the municipal solid waste generated in San Francisco, a town with 60 000 inhabitants in the interior of Argentina. The anaerobic digestion process involved in biogas production, for which certain conditions are to be kept inside the reactors, is described. By implementing this proposal, methane emissions in the municipal garbage dump produced naturally by the uncontrolled aerobic fermentation of solid waste would be eliminated. It is particularly desirable to reduce or eliminate said emissions, since methane is one of the major greenhouse gases. For the exploitation of the biogas to be obtained, electricity generation is particularly considered
