Abstract

In this work the feasibility of developing a solid fertilizer by fluid-bed granulation, using biol (liquid residue from anaerobic digestion) as binder and different minerals as nucleus, is analyzed. Full characterization of the selected mineral
particles is performed and their fluidization behavior is stud-ied. According to the density results, the zeolite particles are porous. For this material as well as for agricultural gypsum and dolomite, the correlations reported in the literature for cylindrical and coni-cal beds overestimate the experimental minimum fluidization velocity, being the prediction con-servative. Also, the process fine tunning is approached. Operating conditions (bed temperature, fluidization air temperature and flowrate, biol temperature and flowrate, etc.) that enable stable op-eration and the production of completely coated granules are successfully established.
