Abstract

Installation and starting up of the fuel cell Ballard trade mark that uses pure hydrogen as fuel and air as oxidant is detailed in this paper, also the performance of the entire system is studied.
The installed system consists of the fuel cell itself, a DC/DC converter, a battery, a DC/AC inverter and the load. The behaviors of the system on an experimental basis and for different states of load also are analyzed in the present work.
The paper details the technical aspects of maintenance and security arrangements in its installation in the laboratory.
The findings are used to make comparisons of the efficiency, maintenance and safety of these devices in providing backup power or disabling access to the grid, taking into account that in the future will get hydrogen in an accessible way
