Abstract

In this work, we analyzed the performance of a secondary sedimentation process for a particular case of dairy wastewater treatment using simulation techniques. The simulation model was developed based on classic design. We simulated the behavior of the sedimentation unit using Matlab® and Simulink®. Factors with effect on the concentration of solids of the effluent were considered. In this work, the flow rate and the concentration of total solids entering the settler with variability found in typical dairy effluent were analyzed. In both cases the process capability was assessed under different operating conditions. The results obtained allowed to establish the power and versatility of these tools for simulation and statistical analysis of practical cases.
