Abstract

An appropriate management strategy and waste plastics is an important aspect to consider in relation to improving environmental quality and sustainable development. Therefore, an alternative is to adopt the «chemical recycling» and among the options it presents, there is select the thermal cracking and thermocatalytic transformation of plastic waste bags (low density polyethylene) to liquid and gaseous hydrocarbons.

For the thermo-catalytic treatment two catalysts were prepared ZSM-11 zeolite modified with Zn2 + and H+. The solids were characterized by XRD, FTIR, AA and surface area by BET method.

The results demonstrate the feasibility of the thermal and catalytic cracking using ZSM-11 zeolites modified with Zn2+ and H+, LDPE (plastic waste). The use of zeolites ZSM-11 yielded a significant reduction in solid waste  and a more selective product distribution compared to thermal degradation
