Within the viable materials to be used as catalysts and / or photocatalysts for the degradation of phenol in heterogeneous phase, be found mixed oxides modified with iron, beginning double-layer hydroxides (HDC). Layered Double Hydroxides (LDH) were synthesized using co-precitation method and a theoretical molar ratio M2+/Fe3+ of 3/1, with M2+; Fe2+, Mg2+ and/or Co2+. Two synthesis methods were evaluated; (i) with aging at room temperature (Ta), and (ii) with hydrothermal aging at 200 ºC in autoclave (AC). The LDH were calcined in air atmosphere at 550 ºC for 10 hours. The calcined materials were characterized by physicochemical studies, such as; determination of surface area (by BET technique), X-ray diffraction and FTIR analysis.
Through those studies the present phases were identified. Due to this work it could conclude that modified ferrite and spinel the Fe3+ with Mg2+, Fe2+, and Co2+ are present in these materials. Magnesium samples did not show hematite structure, but MgO in periclase structure was presented. In addition, magnesium samples exhibited the largest surface area, close to 65 m2/gr attributed to the good dispersion of the oxides
