Abstract

In this work is shown the process of designing and manufacturing of a drag driven vertical axis wind turbine, which is designed to operate at Santa Fe City urban zone.
It is well known the capability of vertical axis wind turbines to work and generate energy, no matter the wind direction, what makes them the first choice to use at urban zones, near buildings.
The aerodynamic studies made with Computer Fluid Dynamics (CFD), and structural studies made with the Finite Elements Method (FEM) are presented at this work.
Also the manufacturing method with composite materials, and still remaining to verify wind turbine real behavior, real power curve versus incident wind speed, start and stop at high wind speed, and optimize battery charge control system.
