Abstract

A 125I seed known as BRAQUIBAC® has been developed by BACON for interstitial brachytherapy
treatment. From radiographic and metallographic studies done on seeds was calculated the physical length of 4.68±0.06 mm, diameter of 0.78±0.13 mm, length 3.07±0.10 mm and diameter 0.47±0.05 mm for silver rod and the walls and the ends of titanium with thickness of 0.09±0.03 mm and 0.39±0.06 mm. The 125I is adsorbed on silver rod.
Spectroscopic showed the relative photon intensities were 14.94±0.45 for 22.1 keV, 3.58±0.12 for 25.2 keV, 62.98±0.48 for 27.4 keV, 14.67±0.33 for 31.4 keV and 4.50±0.14 for 35.5 keV. The angular dependence of the photon intensity was analyzed around the seed and the maximum variation was 7.14±4.39 % and at the tips 31.14±3.11 %. The results of studies done for BRAQUIBAC® source were satisfactory.
