Abstract

Recent advances in the methods of seismic risk assessment led to the development of fragility functions for specific classes of bridges. As a first step for the construction of such fragility curves for bridges in Argentina located in areas of high and very high seismic hazard, the classification of bridges corresponding national road network to the regions of Cuyo and NOA in characteristic groups according to the structural features that have major influence on the seismic response of these structures was performed. To do this, the inventory data provided by National Highways Administration, through its Bridge Management System (SIGMA Bridges) to the districts of Mendoza, San Juan, La Rioja, Salta
and Jujuy were statistically analyzed. This task, in addition to serving for classification as indicated, allowed to identify those representative bridges of each class, which will serving as examples for further structural analysis
