Abstract

This paper presents a multi-period optimization model to schedule logistic activities in a hospital supply chain. The main goal is to obtain a schedule for products replenishment and determine the amount of inputs purchased, knowing the demand profile of each period. In addition, the proposed formulation considers inventory variables and product shortages due to storage capacity constraints and / or availability of labor. The mathematical model corresponds to a MILP problem, where discrete decisions are used to determine the periods in which the suppliers visit the hospital and the times where each product must be ordered. The performance criterion is to minimize the total costs which comprise purchasing expenses, labor and inventory costs, and a penalty term to account for shortages.
