Abstract

This paper deals with the airflow visualization by means of laser sheet technique. In particular, it shows the experimental development of the laser sheet equipment for the LAyF’s main wind tunnel. Design details are indicated for the smoke generator, laser and traversing system. Its behavior is finally evaluated for both steady and unsteady flow field’s visualizations, corresponding to the wind tunnel testing of several kinds of models. The equipment was found to be very useful for the visualization of vortical flows and wakes, also allowing to see clearly the recirculation zone after the detachment point of the boundary layer.
