Abstract

The project “Modeling and design of industrial buildings roofs using form-finding techniques and computational intelligence algorithms” is in its third and final year, obtaining important advances in structural design.
In this work, a brief description of the genetic algorithm developed is presented, followed by its application for the optimization of the weight of a parallel cords flat lattice in an industrial warehouse of the city of Rafaela.
The results obtained are highly satisfactory, since the algorithm considerably reduces the weight of the truss and strengthens basic concepts on the design of flat structures.
The articulation between parametric design, finite element analysis and genetic algorithms creates a very powerful and flexible tool that makes it possible to obtain more efficient results than those obtained by engineers through their experience and intuition.
