Abstract

The concepts of sustainable, clean energy and with minimum negative impact on the environment arise from de increasing world energy demand and the need to combat global warming with the reduction of greenhouse gas-emitting fossils energy sources. This situation is driving research, exploitation and use of alternative energy sources. Within these, the energy associated with the wave dynamics would appear to be a viable alternative for coastal locations with moderate demand. The requirement to make wave energy efficient, viable and competitive against other sources is that the climate of waves in the region must present appropriate characteristics. In this sense, sites in which can potentially extractive energy from the sea in a sustainable way are evaluated, to ensure stable and sustained energy availability.
