Abstract

In many countries a gradual increase in the proportion of elderly people over total population is observed.
Seniors prefer to age in their usual homes but aging in place entails risks and dangers. Remote Monitoring and Assistance Technologies for Seniors aim to provide support to compensate for cognitive, sensory or physical impairment. A simulation model that allows the installation, handling and assessment of wireless sensor networks in a virtual environment is described. The model enables to set daily activities of the inhabitant, its location and to simulate the activation of the configured sensor network. The system described in this paper is the first stage of a project aimed at helping people of advanced age and / or chronically ill to live independently in their usual homes for as long as possible and with best quality of life
