Abstract

The carbon footprint is an indicator that measures the impact caused by human activities on climate change. Applied to an organization shows the effect of this climate measured in equivalent units of carbon dioxide. The objective of this work is to study the carbon footprint of our faculty to find a suitable method considering that it will generate a general idea about the influence of each components analyzed. The work is developed considering the composition of the university community, the distances travelled by its members according to whether transportation is private or collective, consumption of natural gas and electricity, food during the stay in the institution and the waste generated. The carbon footprint calculated, based on data from the year 2013, is 850 tons of carbon dioxide annually.
