Abstract

Air is a mixture of different gases that surrounds the Earth in a layer several kilometers high. Its contamination is due to the presence of greenhouse gases (GHG) and particulate matter (PM), a complex mixture of solid and liquid particles suspended in the air, in high concentrations causing effects on human health. The objective of this work is the evaluation of urban air quality in the city of Rafaela through continuous digital measurement instruments (AirVisual Pro) placed at two strategic points in the study area. The PM results obtained, applying the US-AQI index, show that the air quality in the city is good to moderate with seasonal peaks of concentration of particulate matter during the winter months coinciding with the increase in the use of firewood for heating and vehicular circulation.
