Abstract

In this work, a mathematical model for the optimization of a recovery process of bio-active compounds from by-products derived from the wine industry is presented.

Results are presented through different alternatives: maximization of extraction yield and minimization of solvent consumption.

A parametric study is also conducted in order to analyze the influence of the total volume of leaching tanks on the mentioned variables.

The relation between the variables of interest (total extraction yield and required solvent) is adecuately depicted by the solutions of the analyzed alternatives, observing there’s an increase in solvent consumption as extraction yield increases.
