Abstract

With the purpose of treating and re-using waste from a dual-purpose plant, in this work a preliminary analysis of the result of adding brine to the monoethanolamine solution (MEA) for CO2 absorption and NaHCO3 production was evaluated. Through parametric simulation the incidence of the brine composition (between 3-15% w/w NaCl), the CO2 composition in the flue gas (between 4-24%) and its temperature (30-50 °C), the flow ratio L / G and the number of stages, was analyzed. Both, the addition of brine and the increase of CO2 composition, result in a decrease in CO2 recovery on the enriched amine stream. On the contrary, an increase in the flow ratio or in the separation stages number, increase recovery. The temperature of the inlet gas does not produce significant changes.
