Abstract

The adequate distribution of process units and the totally of the facilities (blockout-layout design) plays a vital role in the commercial success of a project. The plant must be safe, efficient, easy to operate and to maintain, making effective use of available land.

In this work, models of mixed integer linear programming (MILP) are proposed, to optimize the synthesis of dangerous substances tank farm (flammable in this case) and the general plant layout. A sequential methodology to link both problems is proposed. This procedure and both models were applied to a particular case of study that involves the optimization of a biodiesel plant layout with a production of 720 Ton/day, including the rigorous optimization of the methanol tank farm.
