Abstract

In Argentina there are very few combinations / species of wood characterized for structural use. The most important properties correspond to the behavior in flexion, traction and compression. The resistance to the extraction of nails and screws is very useful for the design of joints between parts.

The present work shows the resistance to the removal of smooth nails, spiral nails and screws, in Pino Ponderosa wood obtained from sites in the Arroyo del Medio basin, near the city of San Carlos de Bariloche, Argentina. The values obtained were correlated with the density. The results were also compared with respect to other reforestation wood species, such as: Alamo, Eucaliptus Grandis, Pino Paraná and Pino Taeda / Elliotti.

The extraction tests were carried out in accordance with the procedures established in standard UNE-EN-1382: 2000.
