Abstract

Mixed oxides of Zn, Mg, and Al were synthesized from Layered Double Hydroxides (LDH) with different molar ratios by the coprecipitation method and calcination at 450 °C. The LDH and their oxides were physicochemically characterized to analyze their surface area, crystal structure, morphology, and basic properties. The results show that the LDH have a hydrotalcite-like structure, which changes upon calcination to form their respective oxides. The mixed oxides exhibit a higher surface area and basic sites compared to their precursors. Therefore, they could be used as catalysts in condensation reactions between benzaldehyde and 2,5-dihydroxyacetophenone to form bioactive compounds like flavones. It is proposed to determine the variables to be used in the mathematical modeling of biocompound synthesis processes.
