The importance of structural regularity against earthquake: Regularity in height.

Abstract

The work consisted of the modeling of a nine-story building, whose total height is 27 m. Its plan dimensions are 9 m by 9 m. The program used was CypeCAD (2023). The building was modeled in three different structural systems: frames, frames and partitions with irregularity in height (flexible floor), and frames and partitions with regularity in height. The objective is to analyze the earthquake behavior of the three systems. For this purpose, a common column was chosen and the deformation, normal, shear and bending forces were studied along its entire height. The results show that although the addition of partitions is of great contribution to resisting earthquakes, the essential thing is the regularity in height, since a building with partitions but with flexible floors will have a greater risk of suffering structural damage than a building without partitions but with a correct earthquake-resistant design.
