Abstract

The overall objective of this work is to identify the main issues within the warehouse, design an improvement plan to optimize processes, reduce and/or eliminate activities that hinder the efficient performance of the area, and measure and analyze qualitative and quantitative indicators to evaluate the improvements achieved. Consequently, it is a research project that focuses on process redesign.
This is a fieldwork project, involving analysis, checks, and the application of methods to draw conclusions.
An analysis of the current situation of each of the processes within the warehouse is conducted, gathering data from metrics that were being developed within it to evaluate the state of the processes. The brainstorming technique is used with the department's staff to better understand the issues at hand, using the Value Stream Mapping (VSM) tool to visualize the process flows in the current situation and identify process waste. Among the expected results, starting from an initial VSM:

  • Improving the supply lead time of materials through a change in the current warehouse configuration.
  • Enhancing inventory reliability by applying the ABC inventory control method.
  • Providing training to operators to increase task productivity.
