Abstract

Delivery time, in purchasing systems, is the time that elapses between placing and receiving an order. Its duration directly affects inventory levels, consequently costs and the organization's level of customer service. Failure to meet delivery times can have a negative impact on the relationship between customer and supplier. It can generate customer dissatisfaction, loss of trust and affect the supplier's reputation. In this work, the characteristics and delivery times of four critical suppliers of a company that markets and distributes metallurgical products in the city of Mar del Plata were analyzed. Historical data was used to construct the corresponding X-R control charts. The results showed that, although only one supplier does not comply with the specifications, all the suppliers analyzed have a process out of control. This result highlighted the importance of studying the data with an analysis structure such as control charts. Measures linked to collaboration between companies are proposed to prevent future problems.
