Abstract

The Internet of Things (IoT) has become an integral part of everyday life and various industries. The number of connected devices is expected to continue to grow exponentially over the next few years. Various wireless technologies are used to support massive connectivity. In this sense, this work proposes to describe the existing wireless IoT connectivity technologies, as well as the emerging solutions that can be effectively used to enable the connectivity of IoT devices. To classify the connectivity technologies applicable to IoT, the main parameters to consider are: coverage range, transfer rate, latency, energy consumption and reliability. Another important issue to consider is the service requirements imposed by the field of application. In this sense, the relative importance of the previously mentioned parameters must be analyzed based on the context determined by the application and the operating environment. Within the emerging solutions for IoT, we are going to work with the new IEEE 802.11ah standard known as Wi-Fi HaLow.
