Abstract

10th National and 6th Latin American Conference on Admission and Retention in Science and Technology Programs 2024

Following the tradition of previous editions, held at the National Universities of Quilmes (2008), Salta (2010), San Juan (2012), Rosario (2014), Bahía Blanca (2016), Olavarría (2018), UTN Tucumán (2020), and UTN San Nicolás (2022), the 10th National and 6th Latin American Conference on Admission and Retention in Science and Technology Programs 2024 created a forum for debate and exchange focused on topics related to student access and retention within science and technology programs.

During the event, held virtually from September 18 to 20 and organized by the Santa Fe Regional Faculty - National Technological University, obstacles were identified, strategies were analyzed, and action plans related to management, curriculum development, teaching, learning, research, and extension (service) in these programs were shared.

The virtual meeting brought together national experts on science and technology education, university and non-university higher education teachers and researchers, institutional leaders, and stakeholders involved in the educational management of science and technology programs. Visions and experiences were shared around the following topics:

Policies, Programs, and Strategies in institutions with Science and Technology Programs: discussions included policies on accessibility, gender, and diversity, among other topics. Research and experiences were shared, highlighting the results of these initiatives.

Horizontal and vertical articulation actions: topics covered the connection between secondary school and university, admission programs, basic university courses, and the transition between training cycles (basic and advanced). The integration of teaching, research, and extension (service) in science and technology education was also addressed.

The promotion of competences in the context of Science and Technology Programs: the necessary competencies for access, admission, and graduation (both general and specific) were discussed. The results and indicators of their implementation in various educational contexts were analyzed.

Experiences with tutoring models, systems, and teams: experiences with tutoring programs were shared, both for admission and for support throughout the course of study, and how they help overcome obstacles in educational paths.

Teaching practices to facilitate admission and retention: educational proposals and teaching strategies were presented to improve learning in science and technology programs. Experiences related to inclusion and the use of digital technologies, such as hybrid teaching strategies, programming, and artificial intelligence, were also included.

In this 10th National and 6th Latin American IPECyT Conference, research professors from 18 National Universities participated. The evaluation process involved double-blind peer review for each paper, with 59 reviewers from across the country. A total of 65 papers were approved for presentation.

We highlight the active participation of the 115 registered attendees during the three days of sessions.
