Abstract

Recent advances in power electronics, communication, and informatics are geared towards enhancing the technical and economic
operational efficiency of the grid, reducing environmental impact, harnessing renewable energy sources, and improving supply quality to consumers. In this context, the convergence of distributed generation and distribution networks, in the form of microgrids, emerges as a proposition of consideration. This study aims to evaluate the performance of a standard distribution network under static conditions of normal and emergency operation, and to establish a criterion for defining potential microgrids. For each microgrid, analyses of annual energy balance, statistical extraction of extreme peak and off-peak demands, and identification of critical supply nodes are conducted. The obtained results form the foundation for the future study of management strategies within an interconnected microgrid system operating in an exchange market.
