Abstract

Biobased polymers are of interest due to their simplicity of manufacturing, degradability, and low cost. In this work, biopolymers were synthesized from sweet potato starch with the addition of nanofillers derived from clays in different proportions as a strategy to improve their physicochemical properties. The addition of nanoparticulate montmorillonite (MMT) generated a decrease in water vapor permeability and film thickness, causing changes in color. Micrograph images showed modifications of the surface morphology with MMT content. All spectra showed similar IR absorbance patterns.
