This Thesis work proposes the resolution of the problems related to an internal request from CNEA - Special Alloys Division (CNEA-CAC) - namely, the manufacture of Ag15In5Cd alloy absorbent tablets to be used in the reactivity control system of the CAREM-25 reactor. Focusing on the study of recrystallization
In order to deliver a product with a regular grain size, free of stresses inherent to the raw casting state, and to achieve homogenization of the chemical composition, the study of recrystallization is proposed, which has two aspects:
1-Determination of the activation energy through the study with the calorimeter. Here the test of specimens with different degrees of deformation is proposed, which will be annealed with isothermal cycles and it is expected to find the temperature at which the endothermic recrystallization reaction becomes more pronounced, in this way, the temperatures of recrystallized for each degree of deformation and the activation energy of the process.
2-Measurement of hardness for different degrees of deformation. Deformation will be carried out through compression efforts and then the hardness will be measured to relate the variation of hardness with the deformation.
The hardness values of the specimens will be presented in the states: recrystallized at temperatures between 400 and 660ºC, recrystallized at 630ºC, deformed.
