Abstract

In Higher Education Institutions, student dropout, lag and low terminal efficiency rates are common problems. This work seeks to identify and analyze the causes of student dropout in order to understand the needs of students who drop out, to propose mitigation and retention actions. The project is developed with emphasis on students in the first stage of the Engineering degrees taught at the Córdoba Regional Faculty of the National Technological University, having been programmed in several phases. In the planning phase, the methodological analysis, database analysis and definition of the universe to be studied were carried out. Then a survey was designed to be applied to the population of students who have suspended, abandoned their studies or had poor academic performance. Telephone operators who will contact the students are currently being trained. After application of the instrument, statistical analysis and processing of the collected data will be carried out. It is expected to obtain information on the magnitude, trend, causes and consequences of desertion. Factors associated with dropout will be identified and strategies will be proposed to reduce its incidence. The results obtained will allow the Faculty authorities to address the problem of student dropout from a different perspective and make informed decisions.
