Abstract

Research interest in the port industry has increased significantly in recent decades due to the integration of ports into global supply chain strategies. Ports around the world are facing strong competitive pressures to meet new demand patterns. Because they no longer have a monopoly situation with respect to transport in their hinterlands. In addition, seaports are the most critical point in the maritime logistics chain due to their multimodal and complex nature. Therefore, coordinated communication among all seaport stakeholders is extremely important to improve their operations. While they are a major driver of global and regional economic growth, they are also the world's largest energy users and polluters. Therefore, such evolution must be accompanied by a sustainable balance between the economic, social and environmental performance of the port cities involved. The city of Mar del Plata, located in the Province of Buenos Aires, has an important multipurpose port, which stands out mainly as a fishing terminal. For this reason, the objective was to carry out a systematic review of the literature, using the Publish or Perish tool with the Google Scholar search engine. It was found that there are practically no studies on Latin American ports, nor were any publications found that evaluate fishing terminals. It was also corroborated that to ensure sustainability, a multidimensional approach involving all stakeholders should be taken.
