In 2014 at the Haedo Regional Faculty (FRH), National Technological University (UTN), the Railway Engineering career began. In the context of this career, R+D+i groups arose, among which is ours: “Non-Destructive Testing Applied to the Railway Industry”. From the development of a particularly important phenomenon in wheel/rail contact, the rolling contact fatigue, in this work we tell how our group was formed in that topic and its relationship with the other research lines and with the academic contents contributed to the Railway Engineering career. The understanding of rolling contact fatigue forms the basis for the study of many defects that occur in railway rails. In addition, any non-destructive inspection requires an understanding of the defectology of the component to be evaluated. On the other hand, investigations of the rolling contact fatigue phenomenon and non-destructive methods for its control, in addition to its initial purpose of research within the R+D+i group, gave rise to a set of documents that are used as academic material in the engineering career.
